The Two Language Reality

One of the first things to know about Arabic is that it is not just one language

Arabic has two main forms, and each one is used in a different way.

Modern Standard Arabic

MSA — Formal Arabic — الفصحى

The formal Arabic used in books, news, and speeches. It is the same across all Arab countries and helps you read and write Arabic clearly.

Dialect

Levantine Arabic — العامية

The Arabic people use in daily life. It is informal, natural, and full of emotion. People use it to talk, joke, and connect with each other.

The conversations move between spoken Arabic ('Ammiyah') and standard Arabic (Fuṣḥā).
